Story

Riot was so impressed with the work that they asked Fortiche to create an animated series that took them several years to create. I mean, it’s based on a video game, since when has it produced anything better than passable? But regardless, this is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. I just saw the first episode of the new Wheel of Time adaptation and was disappointed with it I was looking for something else and this just happened. It quickly got the better of me and I went through the entire season in one go. Arcane does everything right that so many shows and movies get wrong these days.
They set things up early and provide decent compensation so nothing feels rushed or cheap
They respect all of their characters, making sure you understand why they’re doing what they’re doing and making you empathize with them. They take just enough time to hook you into the story and the world before big plot points happen so that you really feel their impact. And something that is so rare these days; they aren’t afraid to make all their characters flawed and let them fail regardless of their gender or how strong they’re supposed to be. This is a show with two female leads, both of whom can outdo anyone, and neither of them feel like they’ve earned it. And not once do they feel the need to belittle men to show how cool they are.
Special mention should be made of the animators
Take note, creators of other shows, this is how you write strong characters, regardless of gender, that your audience can feel invested in. Kudos to you for being able to make characters that can express both strong and subtle feelings more clearly than most real actors can. Also kudos to the choice of voice actors and music, both are top notch. All in all a very enjoyable show that gives me a glimmer of hope for future entertainment as I look forward to Season 2.
